More about the Risk Calculator:
This
risk assessment tool uses information from the Framingham Heart Study
to predict a person’s chance of having a heart attack in the next 10 years.
The formula published by
Wilson and others in 1998 is used because it accounts for diabetes, if
present.
The Framingham population is almost all Caucasian. The
risk algorithm may not fit other populations quite as well.
The presence of any coronary heart disease (CHD) risk factor
requires appropriate attention because a single risk factor may confer
a high risk for CHD in the long run, even if the 10-year risk does not
appear to be high.
